American online video-sharing platform Youtube which has been reportedly working on a TikTok rival has revealed that it is ready to introduce its new “short-form video experience for creators and artists” who solely want to shoot content through their smartphone.
In a blog post, Youtube updated that it will roll out an early beta of the TikTok rival “Shorts” with a bunch of creator tools for testing purposes in India with further expansions to other regions.
YouTube’s Shorts app will limit its videos to 15 seconds or less in length. The app will include several creator tools including a multi-segment camera feature that will allow them to stitch multiple clips together, record videos while using audio from YouTube’s expansive audio library, speed controls, and a timer and countdown for easy hands-free recording.
“Every month, 2 billion viewers come to YouTube to laugh, learn and connect. Creators have built entire businesses on YouTube, and we want to enable the next generation of mobile creators to also grow a community on YouTube with Shorts.
“We encourage any mobile creator or artist to start uploading their existing short videos on YouTube today to start getting discovered.”
Youtube has already introduced a redesigned app with a create ‘+’ icon to the bottom tab in Android. This change which initially begins in India is expected to expand to iOS and other countries as well.
YouTube recently added a row to highlight short videos on its platform and to make navigating and discovering Shorts videos easier, YouTube will allow users to switch between videos by vertically swiping on them. YouTube also notes that it will continue improving Shorts and roll out new features to creators over the coming few weeks and months.
