WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging app, has reportedly started rolling out a beta update that lets users request their account information on the WhatsApp desktop.
The feature was initially introduced on Android and iOS to comply with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Request Account Info feature is said to only be available after updating WhatsApp desktop to the latest beta version. The feature currently only available to beta users.
When users request a report from WhatsApp, it gets ready in three days. However, users may have to wait for some more time before to download it. The report will encompass details including all activity information, contact device details, or privacy settings.
Earlier this week, the company launched cloud-based API services in a push to get more businesses using the app. A recent report had also indicated that WhatsApp Premium, a subscription-based model, is being tested for WhatsApp Business.
Earlier, there were reports that WhatsApp was working on a feature that let users silently exit groups. In addition, it is said to be working on quick reactions to status updates as well as showing status updates in the chat menu, a companion mode to link a second mobile device, and search filtering options for its platform.
The request account information feature allows users to submit a request for and export a report of WhatsApp account information and settings. The report won’t include users’ messages. If users want to access messages other than in the app, they can export the chat history instead.
