The world’s most powerful SUV is here and its from Dodge.
Dodge, the American brand of automobile manufactured by FCA US LLC, has unveiled 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat with a supercharged 6.2L Hellcat engine churning out 710 hp, which will make it the most powerful production SUV in the world.
The 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat will be able to tow a staggering 8,700 pounds and run through the quarter-mile in just 11.5 seconds (NHRA-certified). The mean machine will also run from a standstill to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 180 mph.
Under the hood
2021 Durango SRT Hellcat is fitted with a 6.2-liter Hellcat V-8 engine along with a massive 2.38-liter twin-screw supercharger (which produces a maximum of 11.6 psi of boost), which churns out 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.
The Hellcat engine is coupled to an eight-speed TorqueFlite 8HP95 automatic transmission and robust all-wheel-drive system. Massive Brembo brakes reside at each corner and feature six-piston calipers. Front rotors measure out to 15.75 inches while the rear rotors are 13.8 inches in diameter.
The SUV will feature Street, Sport, Track, and Custom selectable SRT drive modes. In addition, Snow, Tow, Eco, and Valet modes are also available, bringing the count to seven available drive modes
Launch Control and Launch Assist systems
Launch Control, which is activated via the toggle switch, manages tire slip to help drivers achieve consistent straight-line acceleration meanwhile, Launch Assist on the other hand uses wheel speed sensors to watch for wheel hop and manages torque application accordingly to prevent driveline damage.
Exteriors and Interiors
2021 Durango has received a handful of updates, including uConnect 5 and a new 10.1-inch touch screen. The exterior has been updated with a new front fascia and LED headlamps, along with a sculpted hood and updated grille. The SRT Hellcat receives an aggressive split chin spoiler, which is fully functional.
Inside, the cabin has been updated with a Challenger-inspired feel. The instrument panel, center console, and front door panels have been updated across the lineup. A flat-bottom performance steering wheel is standard on SRT and Hellcat models.
