Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs recently met Mr. Roland Weigert, State Secretary, Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs to discuss ways of boosting their cooperation in renewable energy, most notably in hydrogen.
The two countries also reviewed ways of promoting dialogue on hydrogen projects and presented efforts to make clear progress in these areas, with an emphasis on future hydrogen trade, highlighting the importance of the UAE’s hosting of COP28 in Abu Dhabi in 2023 and ways of promoting joint action to hold the event.
Eng. Al Olama stressed the importance of such events in encouraging cooperation between the two sides, noting that it is part of the UAE’s efforts to establish close partnerships with Bavaria.
The UAE Official also highlighted the UAE’s keenness to explore opportunities for cooperation in different types of energy, which is a national environmental priority. The two sides have opportunities for exchanging expertise and experiences in renewable energy, most notably hydrogen.
In 2021, a Bavarian delegation led by Mr. Roland Weigert had visited the UAE to discuss ways of consolidating cooperation in the areas of clean energy, in addition to strengthening relations and exchanging expertise with German businesses.
During their interaction last year, Mr. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD, and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) had highlighted the Green Hydrogen project which DEWA commissioned at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.
