US-based microblogging platform, Twitter is testing a new feature that lets users react to tweets using videos and images, with the original tweet embedded.
The feature lets users tap the retweet icon and choose a new option, titled “Quote Tweet with reaction,” which allows the users to post video reactions to tweets alongside the tweet embedded. Twitter has confirmed that the new feature is currently being tested on iOS.
When a user clicks on the ‘Quote Tweet with reaction’ option, it will take them to a screen where they can add a photo or video with the tweet embedded from their device library or make one.
Twitter is calling these reaction videos or photos ‘Tweet Takes’. The feature is similar to TikTok’s video replies, which allows commenters to react to a post, with images and videos.
The launch of ‘Quote Tweet with reaction’ comes around five months after the company had announced the closure of ‘Fleets’, by noting that it didn’t see an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation via the feature as expected. Fleets were similar to Instagram Stories and enabled users to share their tweets with screenshots, photographs, or videos from their gallery.
Twitter is also testing a revamped composer bar, which will sit at the bottom of the interface. This differs from the existing floating compose button and it may offer faster access to features like attachments, spaces and notifications
The microblogging platform has been rapidly introducing and adding new features to its platform, in a bid to keep up with the competition. Last year, it introduced its Clubhouse-like feature ‘Spaces’, its very own subscription service ‘Twitter Blue’, Safety mode and communities, just to name a few.
