The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA).

The partnership aims to enhance the coastal tourism industry in the Red Sea. It stems from the SRSA’s duties and responsibilities, especially from its plan to review the best international practices in the field of coastal tourism for the development of maritime and marine tourism activities through strategic cooperation and exchange of expertises.

The signing ceremony was held at the Saudi Tourism Authority’s pavilion on the sidelines of the Monaco Yacht Show. Mohammed Al Nasser, CEO, represented SRSA while the ICOMIA was represented by its CEO Joe Lynch.

The MoU aims to explore cooperation in several areas. This includes the planning and implementation of existing and new initiatives to develop the coastal tourism sector in the Red Sea, in addition to forging cooperation with international organizations, countries, and other regulators in this field to benefit from their expertise.

This initiative will also attract investors to the Red Sea, enhance the safety and exchange knowledge to achieve best practices for driving the industry growth, in addition to exchanging expertise on coastal tourism regulations, eco-friendly standards, safety protocols, and sustainable practices.

The partnership seeks to evaluate the economic implications, monitor key performance indicators of the coastal tourism sector, complying with new international standards and laws, and cooperate in carrying out research and studies and implementing joint initiatives.

The MoU is part of the authority’s mission to forge and expand meaningful partnerships with international organizations and relevant authorities, exchange expertise, and review best practices to organize, advance, and sustain navigational and marine tourism activities in the Red Sea, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030.
