Under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in partnership with key energy companies, including Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company, the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan and Azerenerji.

This pivotal agreement underscores the SEC’s commitment to advancing regional cooperation and renewable energy integration. It was signed at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) held in Azerbaijan.

The MoU, aimed at enhancing efficiency and enabling renewable energy integration, focuses on assessing the Green Corridor regional interconnection transmission projects, which include infrastructure across the Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions.

This initiative seeks to improve efficiency and facilitate renewable energy integration among participating countries. Additionally, the agreement fosters the identification and study of joint investment opportunities, enabling all parties to support interconnection projects across the region.

Emphasizing collaboration in electricity and renewable energy production, the MoU aims to develop green electricity production solutions while paving the way for further cooperation in other mutually beneficial fields.

Commenting on the signing, SEC CEO Khalid AlGhamdi stated that, “This MoU exemplifies SEC’s ongoing commitment to global partnerships and renewable energy advancement. By working together, we can leverage our collective expertise to enhance the region’s infrastructure, support green electricity production, and drive sustainable growth.”

This MoU marks a significant step towards a more integrated and sustainable energy future, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. Through such collaborations, SEC continues to play a pivotal role in the global energy transition, fostering innovation and environmental responsibility.
