According to the latest statistics released by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), Saudi Ports recorded new throughput volumes in March 2022, increasing 0.09 percent to a total of 25 million tons.

Meanwhile, the container throughput increased by 2.5 percent, to 865,000 containers, compared to the numbers recorded at the same time last year.

Saudi Ports also saw an increase in performance indicators, including the number of container transshipment that increased by 17 percent, to 503,000 containers, the number of passengers witnessing an 84.2 percent growth to reach 98,000 passengers, and the number of cars that increased by 15.5 percent to a total of 78,000 cars.

On the other hand, the number of livestock imported into Saudi Ports fell by 73.4 percent, with a total of 1,05,000 head of livestock, and the number of vessels decreased by 1.27 percent to a total of 1,091 vessels. Lower numbers have been attributed to the challenges faced by maritime transport and global supply chains.

Mawani aims to continue the journey of developing a sustainable and prosperous maritime transport sector and works on achieving its socioeconomic ambitions by implementing its corporate strategy objectives, which contribute to reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub, in line with the objectives of its recently unveiled National Transport and Logistics Strategy as well as Saudi Vision 2030.
