Saudi Arabia has signed a cooperation agreement with Brazilian Space Agency at G20 Space Economy Leaders Meeting held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.
Dr. Mohammed Altamimi, Saudi Space Agency Vice Chairman and CEO, led the Saudi delegation to the fifth edition of the G20 Space Economy Leaders Meeting. The meeting revolved around the theme “Space Economy and Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities”.
This year’s meeting centered on the significance of space economy, its pivotal role in addressing environmental challenges and leveraging scientific and technological innovations to achieve sustainable development goals. The discussion gathered space agencies and entities from G20 member countries, representatives from invited nations, and heads of international and regional organizations.
Altamimi underscored the Kingdom’s progress in developing the space sector, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to harnessing space technology to drive growth in sustainable development and to combat climate change.
The Kingdom’s strategic agreement with the Brazilian Space Agency aims to strengthen collaboration in peaceful space exploration. Altamimi took part in dialogue sessions focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, and climate change, stressing the Saudi Space Agency’s efforts to develop infrastructure, foster investment, and utilize space technology for sustainable development.
The launch of “Future Space Center” by Saudi Space Agency in partnership with the World Economic Forum was also highlighted in the meeting. The center seeks to foster international cooperation, innovation and economic development in the space industry, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s belief in space investment as a significant driver of human progress.
Altamimi conducted bilateral meetings with his Brazilian and Indian counterparts to discuss cooperation in the space economy and related technologies, also met the leaders of prominent Brazilian space companies to explore investment opportunities and forge strategic partnerships.
