Saudi Arabia has been ranked first in the Arab world and 22nd globally in the Global Artificial Intelligence (Global AI) Index, by one of the leading media company, Tortoise Intelligence.
According to the report, the Kingdom ranks second worldwide in the “Government Strategy” standard and took 9th position in the “Operating Environment” standard and 12th in the “research” rankings.
The other Arab countries that secured a place in the index list are Bahrain (50), Tunisia (53), Morocco (57), and Egypt (58).
The Kingdom moved up seven places in the latest index report compared to the 29th position in 2019. The US tops the list, followed by China, the UK, Canada, Israel, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, France, and Singapore.
Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, chairman of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) said, “The Kingdom’s progression to seven places in the Global AI index in one year affirmed the leadership’s constant support for this pivotal sector at the national level.”
Al-Ghamdi further added that Saudi Arabia received a high ranking as a result of the efforts to integrate government agencies and institutions participating in the implementation of the National Transformation Program (NTP) initiatives in line with the Kingdom’s 2030 vision.
Global AI Index
The Global AI Index is the first global index that ranks countries on their level of investment, innovations, and implementations in the area of artificial intelligence. The global index is underlined by 143 indicators split across seven sub-pillars such as talent, infrastructure, operating environment, research, development, government strategy, and commercial. Each indicator pillar was examined and marked by the experts in the respective field.
