UAE telecoms operator Etisalat’s CEO Saleh Al Abdooli has reportedly resigned for personal reasons.

The board of directors has accepted his departure and elected Hatem Dowidar as acting CEO for the organization. Dowidar has been working as Etisalat International’s CEO since March 2016.

Al Abdooli, who has been linked with Etisalat since 1992, was chosen as the group chief executive officer in March 2016.

In November last year, Etisalat’s chairman Eissa Al Suwaidi also left the organization for personal reasons, with Obaid Humaid Al Tayer designated as his replacement.

The UAE’s biggest telecom operator, Etisalat recently published a net profit of Dhs2.2bn for the first quarter, down 2 percent year-on-year due to higher depreciation and amortization charges, raised financing costs and foreign exchange losses.

Consolidated revenues during the period rose 1 percent to Dhs13.1bn, with the group’s aggregate subscriber base reaching 150 million, representing a 5 percent year-on-year growth.
