HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has reviewed progress on the expansion of the second phase of the Green Data Center of Data Hub Integrated Solutions (Moro Hub), a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, the digital arm of DEWA.
The green data center, inaugurated in 2023 by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest solar-powered data center. It is situated at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park.
Al Tayer was accompanied during his visit by Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future; Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA; and Mohammed bin Sulaiman, CEO of Moro Hub.
The development of the world’s largest solar-powered data center was guided by the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It is yet another achievement that raises the UAE’s profile as a leading global player in advancing sustainability and the green economy.
The center provides an exceptional model for combining digital and energy technologies. With a world-class low-carbon information technology infrastructure powered by solar energy, the data center supports the goal of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to achieve 100 percent of its energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
The carbon-neutral Green Data Center is fully powered by solar energy. The project will be developed in 10 phases, achieving a total capacity of 100 megawatts and covering an area of 100,000 square meters. The facility has been awarded the prestigious “Tier-III” certification by the Uptime Institute.
The Green Data Center provides integrated solutions offering next-generation services for digital transformation, cloud computing, hosting, cyber security, smart cities and Internet of Things (IoT) services, alongside professional and managed services.
As a groundbreaking model of sustainable Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, the center combines advanced digital technologies and power electronics with renewable energy. It provides cutting-edge digital products and services powered by Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, including cloud services, IoT and artificial intelligence (AI).
This solar-powered data center will play a key role in fostering a sustainable ecosystem that incorporates the latest solar energy and storage technologies, AI systems and best sustainability practices. Additionally, it will facilitate global hyper-scalers’ access to carbon-free computing and support organizations in reducing their carbon footprints.
