Qatar’s QIIB launches virtual debit & credit cards to boost cashless society

Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB) has launched virtual debit and credit cards via QIIB Mobile and Internet banking to promote digital transformation, and a cashless society.

The virtual card has all the features of the traditional card such as serial number, expiry date, and CVV, with the added benefit of the customer being able to obtain all the details of their card via QIIB Mobile and Internet Banking.

The bank said in a statement that the eligible customers can now request to issue their virtual cards via QIIB Mobile and Internet Banking directly without the need to print the card.

“The new virtual cards serve as an important tool to enable a customer to make contactless and online payments securely. The launch signifies a key milestone in the development and enhancement of QIIB Mobile and Internet Banking. QIIB was determined to make the process of any virtual card to be as seamless and effortless as possible whilst complying with Global Banking and Security Standards. The customer is able to not only issue a virtual card immediately without the need to visit a QIIB branch but can also control the virtual card directly in QIIB Mobile and Internet Banking at any time.”

Further, customers can use their virtual cards at contactless Point of Sales terminals, for online purchases, or to add them to digital wallets such as Google Pay and Apple Pay. The customer can activate and use their new virtual debit or supplementary credit card immediately.

“The new QIIB virtual cards enjoy many features, most importantly high levels of security in all transactions, in addition to the simple and quick issuance and direct use without the need to visit a QIIB Branch. The cards are accepted in all payment operations both locally and internationally and can be added to Digital Wallets such as Google Pay and Apple Pay,” as per the statement.
