Hamad, Ruwais and Doha ports have recorded a robust performance in April after witnessing significant growth in handling 7,857 vehicles, an increase of 10 percent over the same period last year, according to the Qatar Ports Management Company, Mwani Qatar.
The ports received 116,431 tons of general cargo and over 100,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), in April 2022. Roll-on/roll-off (RORO), which are cargo ships designed to carry wheeled cargo units achieved an increase of about 10 percent over the same period last year. In Q1 2022, the ports handled 16,786 vehicles and 58,167 heads of livestock.
In April 2022, 247 ships docked at Qatar’s three ports, up from 216 the last month, representing a 14.3 percent increase on a monthly basis, and general cargo reached 116,431 tons. The three ports handled 9,586 livestock and the building materials handled by the ports amounted to 31,613 tons in the month.
According to QTerminals, a terminal operating company jointly established by Mwani Qatar and Milaha, the containers, bulk, and break-bulk handled during April 2022 were 103,377 TEUs, 16,180 freight tons, and 93,669 freight tons respectively. The Hamad Port alone handled 7,834 units of RORO with an outright monthly record for freight tons for RORO at 176,830 freight tons.
