Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO), the leading marketer and distributor of multi-sector fuel and lubricant products, and Oman Aluminum Rolling Company (OARC), a well-known producer of aluminum sheets in Sohar, have signed an agreement for the supply of green biofuel blends.
This agreement makes OOMCO the first fuel marketer providing biofuel in the Oman market and OARC becomes the first company in Oman to use such environmentally friendly and cost-effective B5 Biodiesel by OOMCO in a partnership that will contribute to a reduction of OARC’s carbon footprint.
The renewable fuel will be produced by Wakud International (Wakud) at their biodiesel plant in Barka’s Khazaen Economic City. Wakud is an Omani SME producing biofuels using recycled cooking oils used by Oman’s hospitality industry.
“This agreement is a step forward on the national and global path towards the transition to a carbon-neutral society. We aim to distribute decarbonized products as climate change continues to call for lower greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable solutions that can adapt to the decarbonization strategies of our partners. Our collaboration with Oman Aluminium Rolling Company and Wakud will further contribute to Oman’s circular and green economy ambitions.”
The decarbonization partnership with OARC is in line with OOMCO’s continuous commitment to deploying sustainable and clean energy in all its operations. And this is also a first step toward achieving Oman’s 2050 carbon neutrality target as biodiesel B5 is meant to reduce 4.3 percent of carbon emissions and OARC will use B5 in its Aluminum Rolling operations as a quick win solution in the journey of decarbonization.
Mr. Peter Rijkoort, CEO of OARC, said that “There is an urgent need for companies like ours to address the challenges, while also leveraging the opportunities associated with decarbonization. The use of blended biofuels for our production processes can lower our company’s direct emissions by 5 percent while remaining cost-effective. We believe this partnership with Oman Oil Marketing Company and Wakud will collectively contribute to reducing the carbon footprint in Oman.”
