Oman and Nauru explore cooperation in various sectors

The Sultanate of Oman has explored ways of enhancing diplomatic relations and economic cooperation with the Republic of Nauru.

Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi received David Ranibok Adeang, President of the Republic of Nauru, at the General Diwan of the Foreign Ministry in Muscat. The meeting took place within the context of President Adeang’s visit to the Sultanate of Oman to participate in the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF).

Further, the meeting was attended by Delvin Thoma, Deputy Minister for Deep Sea-Bed Mining, and other officials from the two countries. The International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF) is a London-based nonprofit international group of sovereign wealth funds managers which was established in 2009.

According to the statement, the two sides looked into opportunities for upgrading commercial communication and establishing bilateral and multilateral partnerships that could generate benefits for both countries, notably in the sectors of tourism, mining, energy and fisheries.

The two sides also underlined the importance of exchanging expertise on protecting the environment and oceans in manner that preserves natural resources. They also discussed ways of addressing climate change.

Furthermore, David Ranibok Adeang was also received by Abdul Salam Al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), in Muscat. The meeting dealt with ways to enhance economic and investment cooperation between Oman and Nauru and means to establish strategic partnerships across various sectors. The meeting was attended by officials from both sides.
