Qatar’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications has joined together with Microsoft Qatar and a global consortium of partners led by Ooredoo to develop and strengthen the TASMU Platform, a one-of-a-kind, groundbreaking smart city solution.
The platform, which is built on Microsoft’s highly available, scalable, and secure Azure cloud infrastructure serves as a digital marketplace that streamlines the coordination of public services across all five sectors, resulting in the adoption of smart solutions by service providers and consumers in Qatar.
Innovators and entrepreneurs could use the platform to develop smart solutions to improve and facilitate their digital performance in each priority sector, laying out their key performance indicators to meet the needs of the people of Qatar.
“At the Ministry of Transport and Communications, our role is to revolutionize and secure our country’s future through research, development, and innovation. With the launch of the TASMU Platform, we are bringing to life the backbone of Qatar’s smart country vision.”
The Platform presently offers over 80 products and 37 smart city services, spanning 5 main pillars; Internet of Things device onboarding and management, enablers and accelerators, smart city value addition, revenue generation, and platform support.
Ms. Lana Khalaf, General Manager of Microsoft in Qatar said, “We are proud and privileged to contribute to TASMU in partnership with MoTC, Ooredoo and our global partners to enable Qatar’s Vision 2030. We envision TASMU as a smart city hub for Qatar and the region that enables diverse solutions for converting data into insights, supporting decision-making and resource management for major entities in Qatar.”
The Platform is the backbone of Qatar’s digital transformation, with the goal of serving as a single point of contact for citizens, service providers, and other players to provide an end-to-end smart city experience. Over the next ten years, the platform will enable the initiation of over 200 TASMU smart solutions and apps in five major sectors like transportation, healthcare, logistics, the environment, and sports.
Smart solutions already operational on the TASMU Platform include Virtual Healthcare Consultation, the TASMU Digital Farmer Community and TASMU’s National Food Security Analytics smart solution.
Microsoft has established plans to deploy intelligent and trusted Microsoft Cloud services from a new cloud data-center region in Qatar, with Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Dynamics 365, and Power Platform, to help clients accelerate innovations.
