King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in order to expand research collaboration and medical innovation.
The agreement focuses on the development of biomedical devices, medical technologies, and digital health. This initiative seeks to enhance Saudi Arabia’s leadership in medical research and development on a global scale and took place at the university in Dhahran.
The MoU seeks to create a unified vision for tackling complex medical challenges both locally and globally by utilizing advanced research facilities and cutting-edge infrastructure to drive innovations in bioengineering and biomarker discovery. Additionally, it aims to develop a collaborative technology incubator and accelerator to support start-ups and promote the localization of the biotechnology industry.
As part of the agreement, both parties will explore opportunities to establish joint postgraduate programs and organize workshops and seminars to facilitate knowledge exchange and enhance research capabilities.
Furthermore, they will explore opportunities for collaboration to establish facilities that accelerate research, support ongoing projects, and foster discoveries, including the commercialization of biotechnology products and services.
According to the statement, this aligns with the goals of Saudi Arabia’s National Biotechnology Strategy, aiming to position the Kingdom as a regional hub in the Middle East and North Africa by 2030 and a global leader by 2040.
