Karwa Motors’ buses, which are made in the Sultanate of Oman’s Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZAD), will be used for the first time outside of Oman at Expo 2020 Dubai.
His Excellency Mohsen bin Khamis Al Balushi, Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and Commissioner-General of the Sultanate of Oman’s Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai stated that the use of Karwa Motors’ buses comes as part of the pavilion’s efforts to promote economic gains and promote various opportunities for the Omani industry.
The bus will be used for transporting Omani delegations participating in various events held in the Sultanate of Oman’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
HE Al Balushi added that “The idea of participation at expo 2020, which is a global event, was presented to Karwa Motors Company. It will give an opportunity for the bus to move around the streets of Dubai and promote Oman’s innovative industries.”
Karwa Motors is a joint venture between Mowasalat Qatar, the state-owned transport company, and Oman Investment Authority (OIA), Oman’s sovereign wealth fund. In November 2021, it rolled out its first Karwa-branded bus proudly bearing the ‘Made in the Sultanate of Oman’ tag – named ‘Salam’.
Karwa has been focusing to scale up its first phase’s operations to focus on manufacturing buses for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Doha. Due to its strategic location close to the regional market, the project is well-positioned to contribute to the success of this global event by reducing workloads, shipping times, and storage costs. Furthermore, this step underscores Qatar’s vision of strengthening neighboring countries’ contributions to the success of the event.
