Bahrain’s Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) has launched the “Global Digital Twinning for eGovernment Excellence,” a part of Bahrain’s pilot program with the United Nations.

The initiative was launched under the leadership of His Excellency General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (MCICT).

The aim is to strengthen Bahrain’s international collaboration through the exchange of the Kingdom’s expertise in digital governance with partner countries. The program launch was chaired by Mohamed Ali Al Qaed, iGA Chief Executive, with representatives from Tunisia and the Comoros in attendance.

The event showcased Bahrain’s achievements in digital transformation and eGovernment. The Kingdom secured 18th position globally in the 2024 UN E-Government Survey and a high ranking on the UN E-Government Development Index (EGDI).

Al Qaed highlighted Bahrain’s pivotal role in advancing the program, strengthening Bahrain’s status in global digital transformation by forging meaningful connections with partner countries.

The event also spotlighted the Kingdom’s success in implementing innovative digital technologies and global best practices, emphasizing more than 750 government services available through Bahrain’s portal, bahrain.bh, as well as the introduction of over 15 mobile apps, including eTraffic, Sehati, and Mawaeed.

Along with deputies and directors, Al Qaed delved into key systems driving Bahrain’s digital transformation, notably the integration of over 20 national systems that focus on electronic connectivity across government operations. Tawasul, a channel for citizens and residents to provide feedback, was also highlighted.

In addition, Al Qaed pointed out the Benayat system and the national appointment system. Benayat system simplifies building permit procedures and fuel investment opportunities in real estate, while the national appointment system enables users to book appointments before visiting service centers.

Chief Executive also demonstrated how the iGA leverages technologies such as cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and big data to drive excellence in service quality and systems. Bahrain’s Open Data Platform and data.gov.bh play a pivotal role in fostering public participation through the availability of accurate and reliable data.

Furthermore, Al Qaed outlined efforts to improve customer service and highlighted the Government Service Centre Evaluation Committee’s role in encouraging government entities to modernize service centers and implement digital alternatives to elevate customer experiences.

The event underscored ‘Technical Development Programme’, a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering innovation and nurturing young talent in the tech sector.

Several iGA officials and directors shared insights into the iGA’s digital transformation journey, covering areas such as system development, service reengineering, and data to support these initiatives. They also explored Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the implementation of innovative technologies.

Delegates visited several key sites, including the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to highlight the Sijilat system and learn about the Ministry’s projects and programs. In addition, the delegation visited Bahrain FinTech Bay and BENEFIT Company, gaining insights into their innovative initiatives and payment system activities.
