Germany-based e-scooter brand TIER has expanded its GCC operations to Doha, making Qatar its second market in the Middle East region, following the launch of services in Dubai last year.
TIER is the first micro-mobility provider in the Middle East to utilize a fully climate-neutral business model.
TIER, headquartered in Berlin, operates in more than 90 cities across 11 countries. The micro-mobility company has stated that its scooters will be stationed near central transportation hubs and other busy areas throughout Doha.
According to the company statement, TIER’s e-scooters have swappable batteries, which eliminates the need to transport the scooters to warehouses for charging. TIER staffs will replace empty batteries with newly charged ones on-site, saving transportation costs and lowering CO2 emissions.
“TIER’s operations model has enabled the company to remain fully climate-neutral since January 2020,” the company added.
TIER e-scooters in Doha have a bigger front wheel, a wider footplate, dual drum brakes, and a double-suspension mechanism to improve safety.
Mr. Amir Melad, General Manager Middle East for TIER said, “Launching in Doha and bringing our service to Qatar as the 11th country worldwide marks an important step in our long-term commitment to foster sustainable cities across the Middle East and globally.”
“With our e-scooters, we now offer residents and visitors of Doha an environmentally-friendly alternative to seamlessly move around the city with zero carbon emissions. Especially in the current COVID situation, the use of our e-scooters make it easy for users to comply with WHO’s recommendations for social and physical distancing,” he further added.
TIER will charge $0.82 (QR 3) to unlock and then $0.27 (QR 1) per minute after that. Riders can pay through credit cards or PayPal. Riders who sign up for the first time have two free unlocks and 30 minutes of free usage will be added to their account.
