In a preview of what could possibly become a new trend in fashion, the models wore a vibrant mix of traditional Korean costumes and contemporary styles strutted the catwalk in Seoul on Friday.
“The entire world is in a very difficult situation due to COVID-19,” said the chief organizer of the event, Lim Yeon-hee. She, herself, was adorning a pink mask that matched her fedora hat.
Lim said, “in addition to an economic slump, activities in culture, arts and sports have also been reduced.” Furthermore, she urged everyone to work together to overcome this crisis.
The show was a huge success and praises are pouring in from fashion magazines across the world.
Earlier this year models walking Marine Serre’s show during Paris Fashion Week also walked down the runway wearing face coverings that were fashion-forward.
But the 28-year-old French designer had designed the masks before the coronavirus outbreak and it was aimed to address another threat – air pollution. They were “anti-pollution masks” according to her fashion house.
Health officials in South Korea, one of the world’s biggest success stories in the fight against the coronavirus, have warned this week that the nation could see more than 100 new infections for the first time since March.
South Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced 41 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the overall caseload in the East Asia nation of 51.6 million to 13,979 infections, including 298 deaths. The country has been reporting 20 to 60 new cases per day since easing social distancing measures in early May.
