Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has won the prestigious Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Global Leadership Award in Energy Management for 2024, under the Energy Management Insight Awards category.
This recognition was awarded for RTA’s submission of a case study on the ISO 50001 Energy Management System, highlighting the Authority’s exceptional leadership and commitment to promoting sustainable energy management practices.
This esteemed award underscores RTA’s significant contributions to raising global awareness of the benefits of energy management systems based on the ISO 50001 standard. This accolade positions RTA at the forefront of the clean energy movement, reflecting its role in advancing international best practices and supporting the global shift towards a clean energy-driven economy.
Nada Jasim, Director of the Safety and Risk Regulation and Planning Department at RTA, said that, “Winning the Energy Management Insight Award is a testament to RTA’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development. By integrating energy management systems into our operations, we are not only improving energy efficiency but also contributing to the broader goal of creating a cleaner, more sustainable future. Moreover, our adoption of ISO 50001 has enabled us to optimize resources, reduce emissions, and contribute to the global energy transition.”
The implementation of ISO 50001 was the spark for RTA to realize the various benefits of the Energy Management System. Consequently, in 2022 the RTA’s Net-Zero-Emissions Public Transportation in Dubai 2050 strategy was announced. This plan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10 million tons of CO2 equivalent and save approximately $898 million (AED3.3 billion). By doing so, RTA is committed to implementing further sustainable practices that will support the City of Dubai.
The Energy Management Insight Award is part of CEM’s efforts to celebrate organizations that excel in implementing energy-efficient systems and contribute to global knowledge sharing in energy management.
RTA earned this recognition after submitting a comprehensive case study that demonstrated how energy management systems can be effectively integrated into existing business operations. By doing so, RTA not only achieved significant resource optimization and sustained energy savings but also committed to continuously improving its energy performance.
