Dubai’s state-owned utility authority Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has become the first Middle East agency to receive the BSC COVID-19 Assurance Statement, following a thorough audit by the leading health and safety organization, British Safety Council (BSC).
The BSC congratulated DEWA by commenting on its various steps implemented across its workplaces and related activities and services to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 pandemic. The existing tactics and technologies of DEWA have demonstrated its resilience and allowed it to advance safely without compromising its services. DEWA scored 100 percent compliance in the criteria for risk management and control measures on how to minimize the risk of transmission.
The criteria for risk management include risk evaluation, preparation of control steps, assignment of roles and responsibilities, implementation and maintenance of controls, communication, training, review and revision of arrangements. The criteria for control measures on how to minimize the risk of transmission involve avoidance of personal contact, control, and surveillance of health, use of personal protection devices, cleaning of the workplace, and ventilation of the workplace.

Al Tayer added that DEWA has trained workers in compliance with the highest international standards for occupational health and safety. The BSC noted that DEWA has particularly strong protocols for testing, isolation, sanitization, and follow-up of potential cases or their contacts. They also followed general controls such as physical distance, cleaning, disinfection, and training.
