UAE-based leading investment company Dubai Investments has declared the winners of its flagship sustainability initiative, the “Acting on Plastic” Universities Competition 2020 that was launched in January this year.
The event is one among several leading sustainability initiatives undertaken by Dubai Investments to honor its commitment towards Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) plan and aligns its directions with the UAE Vision 2021 of phasing out waste across the country while accelerating its achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Winners
Scotland-based public research university Heriot-Watt University secured first place in the competition followed by Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University and the American University of Sharjah who secured second and third positions respectively.

The Competition
More than 110 students from 19 leading universities across the UAE took part in the competition
The competition attracted more than 110 students from 19 leading universities across the UAE, 13 of which remained involved following the COVID-19 outbreak.
The jury panel included members of Dubai Investments, and senior managers and executives from Dubai Municipality, Imdaad, Bee’ah, and Responsible Business Group, all selected from professional fields with direct relation to the Competition’s theme.
