Bahrain Telecommunication Company (Batelco) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the first Maldivian telecommunications company, Dhiraagu, in order to provide cybersecurity services.
Dhiraagu provides integrated services for mobile, internet, and data as well as their relationship with Batelco dates back to 2013.
The agreement would enable Batelco to work closely with Dhiraagu and the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) of the Maldives. Beyon Cyber, one of Batelco’s recently launched digital companies, will offer cybersecurity services in the Republic of Maldives.
The cybersecurity Services from Beyon include Advisory and Consulting Services, Security Engineering Services, Cyber Defense Services, Security Assurance, Cyber Threat Intelligence, and threat hunting service, and Incident Response Services.
According to the statement, Batelco is the majority shareholder of Dhiraagu with 52 percent of their shares. The Maldivian government owns 41.8 percent of the shares with the remaining 6.2 percent of shares publicly held by the Maldivians.
The deal was signed during a meeting of the President of the Maldives, Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid AlZayani, and a delegation from the Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) led by Board of Directors Chairman, Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
The meeting reviewed various topics on digital transformation and opportunities for cooperation. Batelco’s Chairman expressed keenness to consolidate relations between the two friendly countries, especially in telecommunications.
Mr. Mohamed Solih highlighted that “the Cybersecurity agreement with Batelco would help explore connectivity with national, international, and multinational cybersecurity and digital service providers.”
