Bahraini Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and Thales have signed a new contract on the sidelines of the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) 2024, to support and maintain the air navigation message handling system at Bahrain International Airport (BIA).
This strategic partnership forms part of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to modernize its aviation infrastructure in line with the latest standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The minister highlighted the importance of transport infrastructure in driving Bahrain’s economic growth, noting that investment in advanced aviation technology reinforces Bahrain’s status as a regional leader in this essential sector.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, stated that enhancing air navigation systems aligns with Bahrain’s strategic objectives, ensuring efficiency and safety in air traffic management while meeting international requirements and improving service quality.
The new navigation system is expected to enhance services for aircraft traversing Bahrain’s airspace and improve operational efficiency for flights at BIA.
Christophe Ravaud, Regional Director at Thales, expressed his appreciation for Bahrain’s renewed confidence in Thales. Ravaud said that the contract reflects trust in the company’s expertise and commitment to advancing the Kingdom’s aviation sector.
This agreement is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to engage with international industry leaders, leveraging advanced technologies to elevate Bahrain’s air navigation standards. Such initiatives strengthen Bahrain’s position as a regional air transport hub and support the Kingdom’s sustainable development goals.
