Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group has honored the environmental stewardship of ADNOC by awarding Shayma Al Mazrouei, an ADNOC Gas Processing employee with Sustainability Manager of the Year Award 2020 for her contributions to environmental protection through an ambitious water management system program.
The announcement was made as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Business Leadership Awards 2020 and are the only separate annual awards for the region dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of sustainable resource management activities for GCC-based organizations.
Al Mazrouei was honored for her role as Team Leader of the Environment Department in Health, Security and Climate, HSE, Division of ADNOC Gas Processing. She is responsible for ensuring compliance at ADNOC Gas Processing with relevant environmental legislation and improving environmental performance.
Al Mazrouei has made a significant impact on her work both within and outside the company by introducing numerous sustainability projects that have promoted positive environmental and social effects. Her water management system in particular not only lowered environmental costs but also lowered stress on the limited water supplies of the UAE.
“I am proud to work for an organization that consistently prioritizes environmental stewardship, HSE excellence and the growth and development of young female leaders in STEM-focused roles. The UAE’s rich heritage of resource conservation lives on today at ADNOC, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support ADNOC Gas Processing’s water efficiency measures, just one of the many successful sustainability initiatives taking place across ADNOC Group.”
Wastewater generated at all ADNOC Gas processing sites are directed towards cooling of equipment along with plant irrigation and maintaining greenery. Before being utilized for this purpose, they are treated in the site’s wastewater treatment plants.
All treated wastewater strictly complies with the environmental standards as well as the company’s critical guidelines.
Due to these efforts, in 2019 alone the water used in landscape irrigation at ADNOC Gas Processing sites from either recycled or treated wastewater along with other conservation steps has helped to save more than 850,000 m3 of drinking water.
Founded in 1978 through a joint venture agreement between ADNOC (68 percent), Shell (15%), TOTAL (15%) and Partex (2%), the first plant of ADNOC Gas Processing opened in 1981.
ADNOC Gas Processing operates one of the largest gas-processing plants in the world, with a capacity of more than 8 billion standard cubic feet per day, supplying critical energy to sustain the UAE power grid and enabling water desalination.
