Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Municipalities and Transport Department has initiated the online payment on-board the complete taxi fleet operating in the Emirate covering 6180 vehicles operated by seven organizations.
This attempts by ITC which are in collaboration with the stakeholders in public and private quarters will increase the level of services extended, manage the health and safety of the public, and decrease the risks of spreading the coronavirus.
To use the service, taxi users will have to pre-install Abu Dhabi Taxi application, which is accessible on Apple Store and Google Play, create an account and present details of their credit cards saved in the app. Once the journey is completed, taxi users will make the transfer through the app in a quick and fluid process. ITC is currently contemplating the options for other payment means in the future, such as e-purses, to allow passengers several options for fare payment.
The online payment feature will considerably serve visitors arriving at the Emirate as well by promoting the payment of taxi fares without the need for carrying cash.
In light of the current health condition with the chance of coronavirus outbreak, all public means of transport including taxis are being sterilized frequently at the beginning and end of each job shift. Drivers are given sterilizing products to clean the vehicle after each trip as part of the prudent steps ITC is undertaking.
It is worth stating that all taxi users are expected to wear face masks and gloves and manage the back seat with no more two passengers in each vehicle. ITC has lately installed plastic isolators between the driver and passengers and presented all taxis with hand sanitizers.
