The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) is set to unveil ‘yellow license plates’ for commercial motorcycles, contributing to Abu Dhabi’s vision to drive sustainable development and economic growth.
The new category of license plates, scheduled to launch on 1st January 2025, caters to the needs of both businesses and consumers in Abu Dhabi’s commercial transport sector.
The initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi Mobility’s commitment to enhancing economic efficiency and improving the quality of life in the community. The color yellow has been selected for commercial motorcycle plates, as it represents economic activities, thereby differentiating them from those used by individuals.
It also reflects Abu Dhabi Mobility’s dedication to developing a sustainable transport infrastructure in Abu Dhabi. This initiative focuses on companies and institutions that rely on motorcycles as a means of transport or for delivery. It also helps regulate these activities and ensures that they meet the required standards.
Mohammed Al Braik Al Ameri, Executive Director of the Drivers and Vehicles Licencing Sector, highlighted that this initiative will play a key role in enhancing road safety and security, as well as improving the flow of motorcycle traffic. The different license plates will improve traffic system efficiency by making it easier to identify whether the vehicle is privately or commercially owned.
Additionally, this initiative will lead to effective database management and motorcycle classification. It will also facilitate the development of the governmental procedures related to motorcycles and economic activities.
Abu Dhabi Mobility, represented by the Drivers & Vehicles Licensing Sector, has also revealed the number of privately and commercially owned motorcycles. The private motorcycles were around 10,579 and will remain with red license plates. However, around 26,186 commercial motorcycles, owned by companies, will need to replace their license plates with yellow.
The center has specified several instances where users can replace their motorcycle plates with the new ones. Such cases include new motorcycle registration or transfer of ownership while changing the plate number, as well as replacement due to damage or loss. Notably, there are 15 factories, distributed across Abu Dhabi, producing the new license plates.
