Economist Impact has held the fourth edition of the Global Trade and Supply Chain Summit in collaboration with the New Economy Academy.

The two-day summit, being held at the JW Marriott Hotel Marina Dubai, gathers over 500 leaders, policymakers, and global experts to explore the resilience of global trade operations, the link between sustainability and supply chains, the impact of geopolitical factors, and the challenges of sustainable practices amid increasing costs.

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, commenced the summit with a keynote speech, emphasizing the UAE’s leadership in promoting a multilateral trading system.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi noted the positive impact of the UAE’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements on non-oil exports and the overall economy. The Minister also highlighted the summit’s focus on enhancing connections among global trade players, forging new partnerships, and adapting to energy and sustainability demands.

The fourth edition includes 60 sessions, featuring more than 100 local and international speakers exploring many topics such as enhancing supply chain efficiency, integrating digital innovation for sustainable future, and implementing latest technologies to bolster supply chain resilience. Additionally, discussions will center on long-term sustainability in global trade amidst rapidly-evolving global dynamics.

Day 1 covered a wide range of topics. This includes the transformative role of generative AI in procurement, streamlining supply chain finance, building resilience to weather volatility, future supply chain management, the impact of digital trade regulation, and data localization in digital trade. The pivotal role of free trade agreements in fostering growth in developing countries was also highlighted.

The second day is set to explore themes such as financing sustainable trade, leveraging AI and robotics to enhance delivery networks, upskilling supply chain professionals in the AI era, digital trade strategies in Africa, and India’s economic growth’s impact on global trade. In addition to this, there’ll be sessions focusing on innovative local solutions for global impact and how tech-driven innovation can boost trade.
