Instagram, the Meta-owned American photo and video sharing social networking service announced its key priorities for 2022, which include doubling down on videos.
The four major areas of focus are the videos, messaging, transparency, and creators, Instagram Head Mr. Adam Mosseri stressed in a Twitter post. Mr. Mosseri also highlighted the increasing trend towards the app and its features worldwide.
Mr. Mosseri also addressed major updates to the app this year, such as sensitive content control and the ability to hide like counts. This year, Instagram also introduced Limits and Hidden Words, which block abusive direct message (DM) requests.
The sensitivity filter, released in July, allows users to set limits on how much potentially sensitive content they can see on their “exploration” page. The hide Like Count feature allows users to remove the number of likes on their posts. Limits automatically hide comments and DM requests from people who don’t follow the user or who have recently started following.
“We’re going to have to rethink what Instagram is because the world is changing quickly and we’re going to have to change with it. We’re doubling down on our focus on video, we’re no longer just a photo-sharing app, and consolidate all our video formats around Reels and continue to grow that product.”
Recently, the company announced that it is rolling out a new Profile Embed feature to let users embed their Instagram content on third-party websites or connect to someone else’s profile.
Instagram also revealed the most trending hashtags celebrating 2021’s biggest moments such as #Reels, #SmallBusiness, #BTS, #Anime, #SquidGame, #GenshinImpact, #BlackPink, #PrideMonth, #FreeBritney and #NFT.
